Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.
Series: Submitting to Elders
How important is it for us to go to church and receive from the authorities of the elders and leaders that God has placed over our lives?
Yesterday we read that when we submit and accept to the authority, God will give us grace for whichever area of life we need grace in.
Today let’s read a verse from Hebrews 13:17 – “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.”
God’s word is instructing us not to just accept their authority but to obey our leaders. As they speak to you on behalf of God, acknowledge what God is using them to speak to you.
The task of the leaders and elders in church is to watch over your souls and they are accountable to God for every action of yours.
There are two ways in obeying your leaders either you crib and obey or you obey with joy.
Your spiritual leaders, they may be still human beings, normal ordinary people but if you try to cause them sorrow, you are not actually causing sorrow to your elders but God.
God is very possessive about His children specially His servants. You can bring joy to your elders by obeying them continually and when you obey and submit to your leaders you will have a successful life.
One who honours the man of God is honouring God Himself.
