Respected and Paid Well

1 Timothy 5:17
Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.

Series: Submitting to Elders

This entire week we have been studying on the importance of going back to our elders, mentors, teachers, leaders and thanking them, being honourable to them, accepting their authority, being obedient to them, calling upon them not only for spiritual needs but also for physical needs because God has given them anointing to minister to us and when we honour them, God will use that honour to transfer into us a blessing which we cannot neglect. When we acknowledge them as leaders that God has placed in our lives we will receive spiritual gift, a prophecy or transfer of authority.

Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.

Do we really take care of our elders in our church? Do we know how their needs are taken care of. We need to honour the Lord with substance. The bible says, wherever your treasure is, there the desire of your heart will also be. If we are going to honour God with our heart then it requires for us to make sure that we put our money and our treasure there.

How do we know if our elders are genuine?

There are 3 criterias:

1. Work with Excellence – Are your leaders doing their work well, are they passionate, committed, sold out for the task? Do your leaders give the excellence in the work they do?

2. Preaching to Unbelievers – Are your leaders associated with preaching the word of God to unbelievers? Are they reflecting God’s glory and His love to them? Are they living a lifestyle where God’s love reflects through their words and actions?

3. Teaching the church – Is your leader preaching well inside the church? Are they discipling the people in church or they are just happy with Sunday morning sermons. Are they taking efforts to invest into individual lives?

If all these 3 criterias are met, then we should do everything to honour and respect them and pay them well enough and it’s our responsibility to take care of them because they take care of us.
