Spiritual Circumcision

May 12, 2020 | Identity

Colossians 2:11 NLT
When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision-the cutting away of your sinful nature.

It is very necessary for us to take time on a regular basis to inspect ourselves and to know who we truly are. When we are unaware of who we are, we will just be anything, do anything, live and do whatever comes to our minds or our hearts, but when we are aware of our identity and understand who we truly are because of Jesus, we will begin to live a transformed life.

Colossians 2:11 says in the context of Baptism that when you came to Christ, you were circumcised but it was not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision, the cutting away of your sinful nature. This is your identity. Colossians 2:12 tells that when you did get baptised, it was not a physical thing that happened, but something spiritual happened on the inside of you. Jesus put His hand on the inside of you, and He cut away your sinful nature without you seeing it clearly.

It is necessary that you understand your true position in Christ, to see yourself the way that God sees you and the way that Bible tells about you, and for you to be completely in alignment with God’s voice and God’s declaration over your life.

Every time the enemy tells you that you are a sinner or you are somebody who does not have what it takes to succeed in life, you have to look back at Colossians 2:11 and declare that the day that I came to Christ I have been circumcised. This is not a physical circumcision but a spiritual circumcision, and this circumcision involved me disconnecting from every nature that came down from my generation.

If you believe and receive that as the truth in your life today, then that will become your lifestyle, your portion and how you live and what you do for the rest of your season ahead you. So, now it is up to you not to live like the old person you were but to live like the new person that you are.
