The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.

Series: The Reality of Hell

It’s amazing to know that everything that is going to happen in our lives is already written in the Book of Life. Psalms says every minute details are written in the Book of Life. Not just about the life on earth but it’s also written where we would spend our eternity. It is not just the conversations about heaven but even about hell, what kind of place will hell be, what kind of people will go to hell and the reason they would end up in hell, everything of this is mentioned in the Word of God.

This is what the bible says about hell in Psalm 9:17 – The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.

The root word used here for “grave” is “Sheol / hell”. It says the wicked will go down to hell/grave.

Why is hell called as grave?

The natural grave or the cemetery is not the end of a person, because if a person goes to the grave there is hope that he will rise again, but if he goes to hell then that is the end of that person.

Anybody that dies they will rise again for good or for bad, they will stand before the judgement throne of God from where they will be designated to go to heaven or hell depending on their works.

The bible says the wicked goes down to the grave. This is a clear cut verse in the bible that mentions if somebody lives a wicked lifestyle then no doubt that person is destined to go Sheol. The verse also says that this is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.

How we define wickedness is if a person has committed a murder or rape or any such thing. We have downgraded the definition of wickedness in our culture. But this is how the bible defines wickedness – those who ignore God are wicked.

What does ignoring God mean? The opposite of ignoring God is acknowledging Him. Do we acknowledge Him everyday? The bible says – He is standing at the door and knocking, whoever opens it, He will come and commune with them.

While you are on earth, you still have hope, you have the source of hope who is Jesus on whom you can put your faith and trust in and escape that hell that is destined to those who ignore God.

The best way to acknowledge God is to call on His name and His name is Jesus. If you can call on His name and receive Him then you will experience the opposite of that grave which is life, heaven and His presence for all eternity, not just after death but here on the earth right now.

Just make this prayer in your heart:

“Lord Jesus come into my heart and make me a new person, make me like You, make me a person that You desire to be, someone that is not wicked, but who is righteous and who doesn’t ignore You but acknowledges You, everyday for the rest of my life. Thank you for hearing my prayer, in Jesus name I pray. Amen.”
