Joshua 23:10 is an Old Testament promise to the Israelites. In the New Testament, we are still in the battlefield, we still have an enemy and we are still soldiers of Jesus Christ, always prepared to take the enemy head on. The beauty of the promise is that we don’t have to fight; God fights for us. We have to rest in that promise and believe that God will make it happen.
The Word says each one of you will put to flight a thousand of the enemy. That means, even a small church can have an influence on thousands of people if each one becomes a threat to the enemy. Together as a church we can impact thousands of people for the Kingdom of God and snatch them from the enemy. This is a promise that God has given and we can rest in it and trust Him.
God’s promises don’t come to pass just because He has promised it; it comes to pass when we are persistent in pursuing the promise. For example. the Bible says by His stripes we are healed but many times we don’t pursue the promise of healing and instead we tolerate the sickness. It’s not enough to know that Jesus can heal and has healed people in the Bible; you need to trust that Jesus will heal you today as you believe in the healing.
In the same way, believe in the promise in Joshua 23:10. Believe that God will cause you to put a thousand enemies to flight every time you walk in to a city. Believe that every time you make a decision to fast and pray, a thousand demons will flee.
May God cause us to be the people who are threats to the enemy.
