Colossians 2:20-21 NLT
You have died with Christ, and He has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as, “Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”?
It’s very important for us to get out of every religious obligation and every religious system that we bind ourselves with.
Later part of Colossians 2 talks about the rules and regulations that are setup to disqualify our walk with God.
We are living in a world where people constantly wants to prove that we are not good enough or holy or righteous or great enough for God. That is misconception of who our God is. Our God is a good good Father.
Does He love us? Absolutely He loves us. Does He hate our sin? Yes He does. Yet He would never let our sin to stop from coming to Him.
Bible says we are not subject to the principles of the world anymore. According to the kingdom of God, our standard of holiness is not avoiding pornography or avoiding wrong conversations or not stealing money and just making sure we have good reputation. Our standard of holiness is God.
We have reduced Christianity and Bible to a set of rules and regulations in so many places today. Yet God is saying we need to grow up and we need to go beyond that.
Paul says now that we died with christ and we have been set free by Jesus. He has set us free from the spiritual powers of this world. It means that all the principles and rules and regulations are for the people of this world. They are completely lawless, their spirit man is dead and they don’t have a relationship with God. Because of which they have to abide by the rules, they don’t hear God’s voice everyday and they don’t have a revelation of what the Bible says.
But for a child of God, it’s not about the rules and regulations, its the relationship with God that helps us to reach, grow and increase in our holiness, purity and consecration.
We cannot have the favor of God by just following the rules and regulations, but by doing what God wants.
In Bible, it was given how Apostle Peter was praying. When he was praying first he saw vision, after that people came inviting him to gentiles house. when Peter considered doing this, the spirit of God inside him told to go with them and preach the gospel. Now according to the religion that he grew up in, this was unlawful he was never supposed to go to the house of a gentile and associate with them.
When Peter had the vision to visit the gentiles, though he was not bound up with the religion or laws or principles of this world, because he was alive with Christ, his spirit man is alive, he is lived based on what the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will never tell us to do that is against the word of God.
When we depend on the Holy Spirit, we no longer live as religious person.
It’s because of our walk with God and hearing from God, we can grow in holiness and become righteous and our level of consecration can reach the sky.
Let us be motivated by the voice of the Holy Spirit that is inside us.
