Desire for God

Romans 8:11 NLT
“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”

Series: The Resurrection Power

Yesterday we started studying how this resurrection power of Jesus can make a change and difference in our lives. And we also saw that the resurrection power of Jesus that works in this mortal body of ours can bring about the change which can make us resemble, look and talk like Jesus.

How can that happen?
The first thing that we can do is to stop relying on our own strength and start relying upon the strength and ability that God gives us. And that is the sign of revival.

Revival requires you to stop doing things on your own way and start doing things on God’s way .

Let’s read a verse that we are studying throughout the course of this week,

Romans 8:11 – “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”

The second thing is God also gives you the desire. We cannot pursue God except with the desire that He gives us. We think that we serve and love God and keep ourself holy because we wanted that. But that isn’t true because it’s His Spirit that gives us the desire. It’s He who gives us the hunger and thirst for righteousness.

How can we receive this desire?
By constantly talking to Him. In the times of your prayer, reading the bible there is the divine exchange that happens.

When you read the bible verses like – “Blessed are those who thirst and hunger for righteousness.”Matthew 5:6 and “Without holiness no man can see God.”Hebrews 12:14, all of a sudden it births inside of you the desire for new life and a different lifestyle, something that is not ordinary, common, natural or normal. And that desire will make you tap into the power of God.

So many times as children of God we have the capacity of doing right things and also we end up doing the right thing but what we lose in the long run is we do it grudgingly because we don’t have that desire inside of us.

But this morning even as I’m praying for resurrection power to take a prominent place in every area of your life. I believe that you will have new desire. The resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead, it will move in your body, mind and emotions.

If you don’t desire for God, your body will end up desiring for other things.

For example: “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of the Lord”Matthew 4:4When your desire is continually and completely for God’s word, automatically that will kill your desire for food and water. If your desire is continually for the pleasures that God wants to give you and fill you, that will automatically kill all the lustful and other unwanted desires in your life. We don’t understand this and we think that food is a basic need of life and sex is like a basic need of any human being. And so we end up doing the wrong things because those desires are not tamed and subjected to God.

When you desire for God with such ferociousness, the love that you have for God, for His word, voice and presence, then it supersedes the desire for everything else.

There may be days, times and seasons when you spend time in the presence of Jesus and your body will stop hungering for food and wouldn’t desire to watch television, pornography and get into wrong relationships anymore because your desire is completely sold out for God.

Who gives you that desire to live a righteous life? It’s Holy Spirit that gives you the desire. You cannot do it on your own, but the Holy Spirit will have to realign your desire. He will have to bring back to life the godly, spiritual and life giving desires inside of you which died as the result of sin. The Holy Spirit has to bring them back to life.

Can you submit to the Holy Spirit this morning and thank Him for the strength He has given you and ask Him to fill you with godly desires, the hunger and thirst for more of God?

And if you hunger and thirst for more of God, I will promise you that He will come and fill you and meet you at the point of your needs and you will be satisfied.

God bless you.
