You Don’t Eat!

‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:10-13‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“Don’t you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” And now we’re getting reports that a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings are taking advantage of you. This must not be tolerated. We command them to get to work immediately—no excuses, no arguments—and earn their own keep. Friends, don’t slack off in doing your duty.”

God’s acceptance of us is not based on our works or capabilities; He loves us unconditionally. But this does not devalue the fact that our walk with God always comes with a responsibility. It is a privilege to serve God and this privilege is coupled with a responsibility to obey His Word and live as He has called us to live. Your works need to accompany your faith.

For instance, if you believe that God is going to bless you with a job, you have to do your part in applying for jobs. You cannot lie in bed all day and expect to land a job. If you put your faith in something but are not willing to do your part and say yes to what God wants to do in your life, God cannot move in your life.

We don’t work to earn God’s acceptance. He accepts us because of what Christ did for us. God sees us through the eyes of what Jesus did for us. To enjoy this in every area of our lives, we have to move by faith. Faith moves us into actions and the Holy Spirit gives us strength to do those actions.

Paul is not just talking about physical food in the above verse; he is talking about spiritual food. If you want spiritual food, you have to get up and read your Bible everyday and yield to the written Word of God. It is hard work sometimes. You may have to skip breakfast or reading the newspaper, but it is necessary to do that. If you have faith that God will give you a specific direction for your life, you have to put your faith into action by opening your Bible, reading it and praying about it. You will not eat the fruit of your faith unless you do so.

It is necessary to maintain the balance between faith and actions, because faith without actions is dead. It is the grace of God that He loves us unconditionally but it is our faith that moves the heart of God.

Don’t be satisfied with knowing that God loves you. Ask Him to show you how He wants you to live your life. Let His presence overtake your life and give you a new vision of how He expects you to put your faith into action and receive what He has planned for you.
